MY BOOKWORM BACKGROUND
As a child serials were transcendental pleasure, from 'The Great Brain' to Sherlock Holmes, and the original "Iron Giant' books became my backdoor to escape all anxiety. In college, before the internet, hunting vintage children's titles and offbeat comics to grow my library became a flea-market obsession, long into my career in cartoons. First edition Golden Books have a scent all their own. More than once upon a time I've illustrated movie adaptations cover to cover, digitally illustrated three graphic novels for Simon Schuster, and created covers for Scholastic in gouache. Sequential narrative images make me sentimental, like many, stories old and new help my heart swell, sigh, sing, and sleep well.
